Trust is Not a Feeling

Trust is not a feeling.  From my experience, ‘trust’ is a choice — typically in the face of fear or unknown circumstances.

‘Fear’ however is a ‘feeling’, and often wins if we are not paying attention.
I have several clients right now that are in the process of changing jobs   There are lots of unknowns, which often breeds fear.  That palpable emotion ‘fear’, often stops us in our tracks and keeps us in a victim mode and feeling paralyzed.  Trust, however, when we hold her hand, guides us above the fear to something better.  Trusting in something better; yes, that’s it!

This week, I shared with my weekly guided meditation folks, that I love to play the game: ‘visualize the great parking place’. After year of practice, I take it to heart.

Last weekend when Greg & I were in Asheville, I was up to my tricks again…

We were looking for a parking spot and I start my process… (he puts up with it;).  First, visualizing the open spot in my mind, then it appearing. We are driving down Biltmore Avenue and there was the open spot, and the person in front of us pulls in – hmmmm, I visualize the next spot, and there it is!  Again, the person in front of us takes it.  By now – I’m embarrassed to say – I’m a little offended, and the victim shows up.  You know that feeling when ‘that’ thing happens TO YOU, (or you’ve turned 5 years old and aren’t getting your way;). More the latter. I noticed that yucky energy, took a deep breath and chose to shift to ‘trust’ and stated out loud – ‘something better will appear’. I didn’t ‘feel’ trust in that moment, I ‘chose’ trust. We turned the corner, and right in front of our favorite music venue was our BETTER parking spot…so after dinner, and after music we could walk out and there our car would be.

It’s challenging to shift that victim or fear energy when it involves our jobs, relationships, okay; even parking spots. But when we do, I believe we make room for God and the Universe to bring something better to us. We are stating – “YES – we TRUST”; even if we are not FEELING it, and we make room for the best thing to happen.

Trust is your best friend.  Listen to her. Don’t wait for the fear to wane.  It will with movement — promise.
So hold out for that something better, whether it’s a parking place or a new job that feeds your soul.  You know what you need.  Hold the hand of trust and shine on!
